Isaac Parker

description Isaac Parker Overview

Isaac Parker was a United States federal judge who served as judge of the Western District of Arkansas from 1875 to 1896, with his court based at Fort Smith. His jurisdiction included much of the unsettled western frontier, where the court handled cases involving federal crimes and conflicts in Indian Territory. Newspapers later popularized the nickname “Hanging Judge” because Parker imposed numerous death sentences, although executions required separate federal authority.
