description Jacques Hébert Overview
Jacques-René Hébert (1757-1794) was a French political journalist and revolutionary associated with the radical Hébertists. He founded and edited Le Père Duchesne, a newspaper written in a direct, populist style that attacked political and religious opponents and helped him build influence among Parisian sans-culottes. Arrested during the Revolution's power struggle, Hébert was convicted by the Revolutionary Tribunal and guillotined in Paris on 24 March 1794 with other Hébertist leaders.
