Jaisalmer Fort

Yes, the Jaisalmer Fort is one of the very few continuously inhabited medieval fortresses left in the world, with thousands of residents still living inside its massive sandstone walls. The citadel, constructed in the 12th century in Rajasthan, India, contains functioning temples, homes, and businesses.

Despite its historical significance, the fort faces severe structural threats from increased tourism, heavy traffic, and modern water drainage issues. Over-pumping of water has caused the hill it sits on to become unstable, prompting restoration efforts to prevent the ancient sandstone walls from collapsing.
