Kumbhalgarh Fort

Kumbhalgarh Fort is located in the Aravalli Hills of the Rajsamand district in Rajasthan, India, within the historical Mewar region. It sits approximately 82 kilometers northwest of the city of Udaipur and is surrounded by the Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary.

The fortification wall at Kumbhalgarh extends for approximately 36 kilometers, making it the second longest continuous wall in the world after the Great Wall of China. The wall, sometimes called the Great Wall of India, encloses the hilltop fort and numerous temples within its perimeter.

Kumbhalgarh Fort was constructed in the 15th century, with the main fortification work completed around 1458 under Rana Kumbha, the Rajput ruler of the Mewar kingdom. The site had earlier defensive structures, but Rana Kumbha expanded and fortified it into the massive complex that survives today, and it served as a critical refuge for Mewar rulers during times of conflict.
