James Curran

James Curran is an American physician and epidemiologist who played a central role in the United States' early response to the HIV/AIDS crisis. From 1981, he directed the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) AIDS Task Force, coordinating critical epidemiological investigations into the emerging syndrome. His leadership established foundational public health protocols and surveillance systems for tracking and preventing the disease's transmission. Later in his career, he became the dean of the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University, continuing to advance global health initiatives.
