description Jedidiah Morse Overview

Jedidiah Morse was an American Congregational minister, geographer, and author who lived from 1761 to 1826. His Geography Made Easy, first published in 1784, was the first geography textbook produced in the independent United States and was followed by larger geographical reference works and revised school editions. Often called the father of American geography, Morse helped provide American students with descriptions organized around the geography and political identity of the new nation.
