The Jin Dynasty was a Chinese imperial dynasty that ruled from 266 to 420 CE. Founded by Sima Yan, who became Emperor Wu, the Western Jin defeated the Eastern Wu state in 280 and briefly reunited much of China after the Three Kingdoms period. After the Western Jin collapsed in the north, the Eastern Jin court continued from Jiankang in the south until the dynasty was replaced by Liu Song in 420.
