John P. Snyder was an American cartographer who lived from 1926 to 1997 and specialized in the mathematical design and analysis of map projections. He developed the Space Oblique Mercator projection for mapping imagery collected by Landsat satellites as they followed their orbital paths. He also worked with the United States Geological Survey and wrote technical references used by cartographers, geographers, and geospatial specialists.
