Jōji Yuasa (1929–2024) was a prominent Japanese composer known for his extensive contributions to contemporary classical and electronic music. He was a founding member of the Jikken Kōbō (Experimental Workshop), an influential Japanese avant-garde artistic collective formed in the 1950s. Yuasa composed a wide array of orchestral, chamber, and electroacoustic works, often drawing inspiration from traditional Japanese aesthetics, astronomy, and Asian philosophy. In addition to his concert music, he scored several films, including the acclaimed anime Belladonna of Sadness.
