Judith Resnik was an American electrical engineer and NASA astronaut selected for the agency's astronaut corps in 1978. She first flew aboard Space Shuttle Discovery on the STS-41-D mission in 1984, becoming the second American woman to travel in space. Resnik died with six crewmates when Space Shuttle Challenger broke apart shortly after the launch of mission STS-51-L on January 28, 1986.
