Kanda Myojin

Kanda Myojin, officially named Kanda Shrine, is a Shinto sanctuary located in the Chiyoda ward of central Tokyo. It sits right in the heart of the city near the famous Akihabara electronics district. The shrine is easily accessible for both locals and tourists.

The shrine has a very long history, having been originally established in 730 CE. It has survived centuries of Tokyo's history, including natural disasters and wars. It remains one of the older religious sites in the modern metropolis.

Kanda Myojin enshrines several deities, most notably including the rebellious 10th-century samurai Taira no Masakado. Despite his historical rebellion against the government, he is now venerated as a guardian spirit. The shrine serves as the protective deity for the surrounding local neighborhoods.

Because of its proximity to the Akihabara electronics district, Kanda Myojin has become known for blessing electronic devices. Visitors often bring their computers, phones, and gadgets to be purified by the Shinto priests. This beautifully blends the shrine's ancient 730 CE heritage with modern Tokyo culture.
