KEF Q150

The Uni-Q driver is KEF's signature technology where the high-frequency tweeter is mounted directly in the acoustic center of the midrange/woofer cone. This design makes the sound appear to originate from a single point. It results in a much wider dispersion and a highly accurate, three-dimensional stereo image.

While the Q150 features a 5.25-inch woofer that provides surprisingly punchy bass for a bookshelf speaker, it naturally rolls off around 51Hz. If you listen to a lot of electronic music, hip-hop, or want to feel the deep impact in movies, pairing them with a subwoofer like the KEF Kube series will provide a much fuller frequency response.

The KEF Q150 has an impedance of 8 ohms and a moderate sensitivity of 85dB, meaning it benefits from a decent amount of power to sound its best. A solid-state amplifier providing anywhere from 10 to 100 watts per channel will drive them cleanly. Popular pairings include the Yamaha A-S501 or the Marantz PM6007 integrated amplifiers.

The Q150 is the direct successor to the Q100 and features a completely redesigned cabinet with a larger 5.25-inch woofer (up from 5.1 inches) and improved internal bracing. KEF also updated the porting to the rear of the cabinet, resulting in cleaner, less distorted bass response at high volumes. The Uni-Q driver array was also updated for even smoother high-frequency dispersion.
