Keith Stanovich

description Keith Stanovich Overview

Keith Stanovich is a Canadian cognitive psychologist whose research spans reading development, reasoning, judgment, and individual differences in rational thought. He coined the term dysrationalia for the tendency to think or act irrationally despite having adequate intelligence. His work argues that conventional intelligence tests do not fully measure reflective thinking, probabilistic reasoning, resistance to cognitive biases, or the disposition to examine one's beliefs.
