Kent Flannery

Kent Flannery is a prominent American archaeologist known for his extensive work studying the origins of agriculture and early state societies in Mesoamerica. He significantly advanced the field by applying systems theory and ecological approaches to the archaeology of the Oaxaca Valley.

Flannery conducted his most famous and influential fieldwork in the Valley of Oaxaca, Mexico. There, he excavated sites like San José Mogote, which provided crucial evidence for the transition from hunter-gatherer societies to early agricultural villages.
