The Konbaung dynasty was the last dynasty to rule Burma, or present-day Myanmar, governing from 1752 until the British annexation of Upper Burma in 1885. It was founded by Alaungpaya, who reunified much of the country after the collapse of the Toungoo dynasty. Konbaung rulers expanded into neighboring regions, including parts of Assam and Manipur, and fought major wars with Siam and British India. The dynasty ended after the Third Anglo-Burmese War, when British forces captured Mandalay and removed King Thibaw.
