description KONG Classic Overview
Made from natural rubber, the KONG Classic combines a hollow center with a rounded, stacked shape that produces an irregular bounce. Dogs can chew it or chase it during supervised play, and the interior can hold suitable food or treats. Filling the cavity adds a different kind of activity, encouraging a dog to work at reaching the contents rather than simply carrying the toy around. The Classic comes in different sizes, so it is not inherently a large toy.
Choosing an appropriate size and rubber formulation matters, particularly for dogs that chew forcefully. It can be incorporated into training routines as a reward or used for food-based enrichment, but no chew toy is indestructible. Its distinguishing feature is the combination of chewing and a stuffable interior in a simple reusable design. It suits dogs that enjoy rubber toys, provided its condition is checked and damaged toys are replaced.
help KONG Classic FAQ
What size KONG Classic is best for a Labrador?
A Labrador is a large breed with a strong bite, so a size Large or Extra Large KONG Classic is highly recommended. Choosing the correct size prevents the dog from accidentally swallowing or choking on the rubber toy.
How do you clean a KONG Classic dog toy?
The standard red and black KONG rubber toys are completely dishwasher safe on the top rack. This makes it incredibly easy to clean out sticky peanut butter or frozen wet dog food from the hollow center.
Can I put my KONG Classic in the freezer?
Yes, owners frequently stuff the hollow center with wet food or broth and place it in the freezer until solid. This creates a long-lasting, cooling interactive puzzle toy that helps soothe teething puppies or anxious dogs.
What is the difference between the red and black KONG toys?
The red KONG Classic is made from standard rubber for average adult chewers, while the black KONG Extreme is made from a significantly harder rubber. The black version is specifically engineered for power chewers who would destroy normal dog toys.
