description Konkoly Observatory Overview
Konkoly Observatory is the English name commonly used for the Astronomical Institute of the HUN-REN Research Centre for Astronomy and Earth Sciences in Hungary. Miklós Konkoly-Thege began regular observations at his private observatory in Ógyalla in 1871, and the institution was donated to the Hungarian state in 1899 before its instruments and operations were moved to Budapest after World War I. The institute now operates facilities in Budapest and at the Piszkéstető Mountain Station, studying stars, variable stars, exoplanets, Solar System bodies, and cosmology.
