Korora oliveri

description Korora oliveri Overview

Korora oliveri, or Oliver's penguin, is an extinct small, slender penguin from the Waitakian Stage of New Zealand, spanning the late Oligocene to early Miocene. It was described from a fossil tarsometatarsus collected in the Hakataramea Valley of South Canterbury, on the South Island, and the genus Korora was created for this material. Its small, slender proportions distinguish it from many larger fossil penguins known from New Zealand. [New Zealand Birds Online](https://www.nzbirdsonline.org.nz/species/olivers-penguin)
