Kynance Cove

Kynance Cove is located on the eastern side of the Lizard Peninsula in south Cornwall, accessible via the A3083 road from Helston. The National Trust operates a car park approximately a 10-15 minute walk from the cove, with a marked footpath leading down to the beach area.

Serpentine is a dark green and red metamorphic rock characteristic of the Lizard Peninsula, and Kynance Cove is one of the best places to see it exposed along the cliffs and sea stacks. The rock gets its name from its mottled, snake-like patterning and has been carved into ornaments and souvenirs by local Cornish craftspeople for generations.

Kynance Cove is best visited at low tide, when the sandy beach is exposed and visitors can explore the sea caves and tidal islands that are otherwise submerged. Tide times should be checked in advance, as the beach is significantly reduced or completely covered at high tide, making it unsafe for beach activities.
