Lafontaine Tunnel

description Lafontaine Tunnel Overview

The Lafontaine Tunnel, formally known as the Louis-Hippolyte Lafontaine Tunnel, is a major immersed-tube infrastructure crossing the St. Lawrence River in Quebec, Canada. Completed in 1967, it connects the island of Montreal to the south shore suburbs via Autoroute 25. The tunnel was engineered using prefabricated concrete sections that were floated into position and submerged into a prepared trench.

It remains one of the largest subaqueous road tunnels in North America, handling substantial daily commercial and commuter traffic.
