Long erosion has produced rounded, forested hills and relatively modest elevations, generally below 1,000 meters, rather than sharp alpine peaks. The region contains numerous lakes and rivers and is used for forestry, outdoor recreation, vacation communities, and winter sports at resorts north of Montreal.
