description Lens Overview

Lens is a browser-based application designed for managing Kubernetes clusters. It offers a unified visualization of deployments and applications, facilitating debugging and streamlining workflows for developers working with containerized environments. Primarily used by those involved in development, DevOps, and operations teams who require direct access to and control over their Kubernetes infrastructure.

help Lens FAQ

Is Lens a browser application or a desktop Kubernetes client?

Lens is primarily a desktop Kubernetes IDE, not merely a browser-based dashboard. Official downloads are available for Windows, macOS, and several Linux package formats.

Does Lens install anything inside my Kubernetes cluster?

Lens connects to clusters using Kubernetes credentials such as entries in a kubeconfig file. Core resource browsing does not require replacing kubectl or moving the cluster into a Lens-hosted control plane.

What can Lens show when a pod keeps crashing?

Lens can expose pod logs, events, container status, resource YAML, and an integrated terminal from one cluster view. That makes failures such as CrashLoopBackOff easier to trace across a Deployment, ReplicaSet, and its pods.

Can a company use Lens for free?

Lens offers free personal use, but its licensing distinguishes personal users from organizations. The published terms require a paid plan for organizations above $10 million in annual revenue or funding, apart from a limited evaluation period.
