Lesath

Lesath (Upsilon Scorpii) is located at the southern tip of the scorpion's stinger in the constellation Scorpius. It forms a close visual pair with the neighboring star Shaula (Lambda Scorpii), and together the two stars mark the distinctive twin-pointed "stinger" at the end of the scorpion's tail.

Lesath is located approximately 580 light-years from Earth. Despite appearing very close to Shaula in the sky, the two stars form only a visual pair and are not gravitationally bound, meaning they may be at significantly different actual distances.

Lesath appears immediately next to Shaula (Lambda Scorpii), the brighter of the two stars that together form the scorpion's stinger. Shaula is one of the brightest stars in Scorpius, while Lesath is slightly fainter at approximately magnitude 2.7, making the pair a popular target for naked-eye and binocular observers.

Lesath is visible from much of the Northern Hemisphere during the summer months when Scorpius is above the horizon, but its far southern position in the constellation makes it difficult from high northern latitudes. It is best observed from southern or tropical locations where Scorpius rises high in the sky.
