The Lesser Broad-bordered Yellow Underwing is a noctuid moth, Noctua janthe, recorded across Europe and common in much of Britain. Adults have brown or gray-brown forewings that can show a purplish tint, a pale buff area on the front of the thorax, and yellow-orange hindwings with a dark border. It inhabits woodland, hedgerows, and gardens, and flies mainly from July to September, when it is attracted to flowers and artificial light.
