description Longhorn Cavern Overview

Longhorn Cavern is a limestone cave in Burnet County, Texas, within Longhorn Cavern State Park. The cave was formed mainly by the action of an ancient underground river and contains passages, chambers, and mineral deposits shaped by erosion and later cave processes. During the 1930s, Civilian Conservation Corps workers developed parts of the cavern and park for public access, making it both a geological site and a historic conservation project.
