The Magellanic penguin is a banded penguin of the genus Spheniscus, native to the coasts of southern South America. It breeds mainly in Argentina, Chile, and the Falkland Islands, then travels north along the Atlantic and Pacific coasts outside the breeding season. Named after Ferdinand Magellan, the species is recognized by its black-and-white plumage, chest bands, and burrow-nesting habits.
