Mangalyaan, formally the Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM), is a space probe launched by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in November 2013. It successfully entered Mars orbit in September 2014, making India the first Asian nation to reach Martian orbit and the first country globally to do so on its maiden attempt. The spacecraft was primarily designed to demonstrate interplanetary mission capabilities and carried instruments to study the Martian surface and atmosphere.

PSLV-C25 first placed MOM into an elliptical Earth orbit in November 2013. The spacecraft performed a series of orbit-raising burns before departing for Mars and entering orbit there on September 24, 2014.

Its five payloads included the Mars Colour Camera and Methane Sensor for Mars. The orbiter also studied the upper atmosphere and returned full-disk color images of the planet.
