description Manitoba Escarpment Overview

The Manitoba Escarpment is a broad geological cuesta, meaning an asymmetric ridge with a steep slope on one side and a gentler dip slope on the other, in the Prairie region of Canada. It marks the transition from the lower Manitoba lowlands, including the Red River Valley, to higher upland surfaces to the west. Uneven erosion of layered sedimentary rocks produced the relief, including upland areas associated with the Pembina and Riding Mountains.
