description Maritsa River Overview
The Maritsa River, also called the Evros in Greece and the Meriç in Turkey, is a transboundary river of the Balkans. About 480 kilometers long, it rises in Bulgaria, flows through Bulgaria and Turkey, and forms much of the boundary between Greece and Turkey before entering the Aegean Sea. Its basin is shared by all three countries and is affected by seasonal changes caused by rainfall and snowmelt.
