Melissa Leach is a British social anthropologist and development scholar whose research examines environmental change, sustainability, health, gender, and public policy, particularly in Africa. She co-authored Misreading the African Landscape, published in 1996, which challenged conventional accounts of forest loss in Guinea by combining historical, ecological, and local evidence. Her work is associated with interdisciplinary research at the Institute of Development Studies in Sussex.
