Miami Blue

description Miami Blue Overview

The Miami blue (*Cyclargus thomasi bethunebakeri*) is an endangered butterfly species native to Florida, primarily found in the southern coastal regions and the Florida Keys. It is a small lepidopteran distinguished by the bright, metallic blue coloration on the upper side of its wings, contrasted by gray undersides with distinct black and white spots. The insect relies on specific host plants, such as gray nickerbean and balloon vine, for its larvae to develop. Due to coastal habitat loss and hurricanes, active conservation programs monitor and breed the butterfly to prevent its extinction.
