Micarea prasina is a small crustose lichen with a pale to dark green thallus made of densely aggregated goniocysts, giving it a granular or algae-like appearance. Its minute apothecia may be whitish, grayish, brownish, or blackish, and the species can also produce immersed pycnidia. It grows on bark, decaying wood, and soil in damp woodland and related habitats. Elias Magnus Fries described the species in 1825, and sterile material can be difficult to separate from non-lichenized green crusts.
