Size 2 produces a moderately broad italic stroke suitable for medium-sized scripts. It is one of the most popular sizes for beginners learning italic and foundational hands.

The Mitchell Round Hand nib uses a removable slide-on reservoir that attaches to the top of the nib, holding a small supply of ink to extend writing time between dips. The reservoir slides on from the back and is positioned so the tip sits just behind the nib's writing edge. Proper reservoir positioning is critical for consistent ink flow and is often the main challenge for new users.
