The Monte Desert is an arid ecoregion located in Argentina, situated in the rain shadow of the Andes mountains. Covering a vast expanse across several Argentine provinces, including Mendoza, San Juan, and La Rioja, it is characterized by dry basins, rocky outcrops, and sparse scrubland vegetation. It is considered the second-driest region in South America, following the Atacama Desert. The environment supports highly adapted flora and fauna, such as creosote bushes, guanacos, and various reptile species suited to its extreme climate.
