description Montfort Castle Overview
Montfort Castle is a ruined Crusader fortress in the western Galilee of northern Israel. Built on a rocky spur above the Kziv River, it came under the control of the Teutonic Knights, who used it as an administrative center and transferred parts of their headquarters from Acre there in the 13th century. The castle was captured by Mamluk forces under Sultan Baybars in 1271 and was not rebuilt as a functioning stronghold.
