The Mount Elgon Massif is an extinct shield volcano located on the border between Uganda and Kenya in East Africa. With its peak reaching 4,321 meters, it features one of the largest intact volcanic calderas in the world, measuring approximately 8 kilometers across. The massif contains diverse vegetation zones ranging from montane forest to alpine moorland and is protected within Mount Elgon National Park in both countries, providing habitat for wildlife including elephants, leopards, and various primate species.
