description Musala Overview

Musala is the highest peak in Bulgaria and the entire Balkan Peninsula, with an elevation of 2,925 meters (9,596 feet). Located in the Rila Mountains in southwestern Bulgaria, Musala is part of Rila National Park and features a diverse alpine ecosystem with several glacial lakes. A meteorological observatory, established in the mid-20th century, operates near the summit, and the mountain is a popular destination for hikers and skiers, with a cable car system providing access to lower portions of the peak.
