Myron

Myron was a Greek sculptor active in the Classical period, generally associated with the 5th century BCE. He is best known for dynamic representations of athletes, especially the Discobolus, or discus thrower.

His most famous work is the Discobolus, which captures an athlete at a tense moment before releasing the discus. The original bronze is lost, so modern viewers know the composition through later Roman marble copies.

The original Discobolus is understood to have been made in bronze rather than marble. Several Roman marble copies survive, which is why the work is often encountered in marble museums today.

Myron is especially associated with movement and a captured instant, while Polykleitos is known for proportion systems and balanced standing figures such as the Doryphoros. Both were major Greek sculptors of the Classical period, but their most recognizable formal priorities differ.
