Neovim

As an extensible fork of Vim, Neovim centers text editing on keyboard commands and modal interaction, where keys perform different tasks depending on the active mode. It is commonly used in a terminal and can support workflows on both local machines and remote systems. Lua configuration and plugins let developers shape the editor around their preferred tools rather than accept a fixed development environment. Its built-in Language Server Protocol support connects the editor to language servers that can provide features such as completion, navigation and diagnostics.

Those capabilities require the relevant servers and configuration; they are not identical for every language out of the box. Neovim suits users willing to learn Vim-style editing and maintain a personalized setup. Terminal use is a defining strength, but graphical frontends also exist, so it is not restricted to an entirely terminal-based interface.
