NOAA-9 is an American weather satellite launched in December 1984 as part of the TIROS-N series. It operates in a polar orbit, carrying instruments such as the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) and the High Resolution Infrared Radiation Sounder (HIRS/2). These tools allowed the satellite to provide continuous global atmospheric temperature and moisture profiles. It was operated by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration for environmental monitoring.
