The narrative unfolds during a complex interstellar war in which Earth is allied with the alien Starmen against a competing galactic empire. The plot follows Eric Sweetscent, a physician who becomes entangled in political espionage and time manipulation caused by a highly addictive, reality-altering drug called JJ-180.
