Ogasawara Guyot

description Ogasawara Guyot Overview

Ogasawara Guyot is a flat-topped submarine mountain in the western Pacific near the Ogasawara Islands, also known as the Bonin Islands. A guyot is a seamount whose summit has been leveled and later submerged, leaving a broad, relatively flat top below sea level. Ogasawara Guyot has volcanic origins and is associated with Cretaceous-age geological history. It is a feature studied through marine geology and seafloor mapping, not an inhabited island or above-water landform.
