Ogun

Ogun is revered as the deity of iron, war, labor, and technology, making him the patron of blacksmiths, warriors, hunters, and mechanics who work with metal tools. Anyone whose profession relies on metal or cutting implements traditionally pays homage to him.

Originating in West Africa, Ogun's veneration spread globally through the transatlantic slave trade and is a central figure in Santería, Candomblé, and Haitian Vodou. He is syncretized with Saint Peter or Saint George in many of these New World traditions.

Ogun is symbolized by iron, machetes, nails, and other sharp metal tools, and his devotees frequently offer him rum, cigars, and palm wine. His altars are often kept outside near a forge or in the woods, reflecting his rugged nature.

According to Yoruba theology, Ogun was the first orisha to descend to Earth, using his machete to clear a path through the dense wilderness for the other gods. This feat cemented his reputation as the ultimate pioneer and protector of human civilization.
