Olympic Revels

description Olympic Revels Overview

Olympic Revels is a mythological burletta written by J. R. Planché with music by Charles Dance and first performed in London in 1831. It reworks figures and episodes from classical mythology for comic stage treatment, using the mixture of parody, spectacle, and music associated with early nineteenth-century burlesque.

The piece is closely linked to Madame Vestris because its production marked the beginning of her management of the Olympic Theatre.
