OpenAI vs Google

Following the massive viral success of OpenAI's ChatGPT in late 2022, Google issued an internal "Code Red" alert to redirect massive resources toward generative AI. They quickly debuted their own conversational AI service, initially named Bard, to prevent OpenAI from capturing the search engine market.

OpenAI relies on billions of dollars in investments and massive computational infrastructure provided by Microsoft to train and run its complex language models. OpenAI's models are now deeply integrated into Microsoft's Bing search engine and the Copilot assistant within Windows to directly challenge Google's dominance.

In 2014, Google acquired DeepMind, the legendary AI research laboratory based in London that created the AlphaGo system. DeepMind's massive expertise in machine learning has been merged with Google Brain to create the Gemini models, serving as Google's primary weapon against OpenAI.

OpenAI powers its ChatGPT ecosystem using its proprietary GPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) series of models, such as GPT-4o. Google relies on its Gemini family of models, which utilize advanced multimodal capabilities to process text, images, and audio natively.
