Operation Anaconda

description Operation Anaconda Overview

Operation Anaconda was a United States-led military operation conducted in March 2002 in Afghanistan's Shah-i-Kot Valley and surrounding mountains. American and allied Afghan forces sought to destroy or capture al-Qaeda and Taliban fighters concentrated in the area, while coalition aircraft provided extensive support. The operation became one of the largest conventional engagements of the early Afghanistan War and exposed difficulties in intelligence, coordination, communications, and close air support.
