Orient GMT Solar

The watch utilizes a solar-powered movement, meaning it charges its internal battery via a solar cell hidden beneath the watch dial. Exposing the watch to natural sunlight or strong artificial light keeps the battery topped up. Once fully charged, it can run for months in complete darkness without needing a battery replacement.

The independent 24-hour GMT hand is set by pulling the crown out to the appropriate position and rotating it until the hand points to your desired secondary timezone. Because it moves in 24-hour increments, you align it with the hour markers on the dial to track a different time zone. This makes it an excellent tool for tracking international business hours.

Despite Orient's long history of mechanical automatic watches, the GMT Solar models feature a solar quartz movement. This provides superior accuracy compared to mechanical movements and eliminates the need for manual winding. It combines the classic aesthetic of an analog dive or field watch with the reliability of solar technology.

While specific water resistance varies by model, many Orient solar watches feature at least 100 meters (10 BAR) of water resistance, making them safe for swimming and snorkeling. The screw-down crown helps prevent water ingress under pressure. However, you should always ensure the crown is firmly screwed down before exposing it to water.
