Ortler is a prominent 3,905-meter mountain located in the Ortler Alps of South Tyrol in northern Italy. It is the highest peak in the Eastern Alps outside of the Bernina range and historically served as a significant landmark on the border between Austria-Hungary and Italy. The mountain was first successfully summited in 1804 by Austrian mountaineer Josef Pichler, known as "Pseirer," on behalf of Archduke John of Austria. Today, Ortler is a notable mountaineering objective characterized by its glaciated northern and eastern faces.
