description Parasyte Overview
Hitoshi Iwaaki's completed manga Parasyte follows Shinichi Izumi after an alien parasite fails to take over his brain and instead occupies his right hand. The organism, named Migi, must coexist with him while other parasites replace their hosts' identities and prey on humans. This unusual partnership makes the invasion personal, forcing both characters to negotiate survival despite different instincts and priorities. Body horror gives the series its unsettling visual character, but the violence supports broader questions about identity and what qualifies as humanity.
Shinichi's changing responses to danger complicate a simple division between human compassion and alien indifference. The seinen series suits older readers interested in science fiction horror with sustained character development. Its defining distinction is the conversation between host and parasite, which turns an infection-like threat into an examination of dependence and the assumptions humans make about other forms of life.
