description Paul de Madriz Overview

[Paúl de Madriz](https://rsis.ramsar.org/RISapp/files/RISrep/PT823RIS.pdf), also called Madriz Marsh, is a freshwater wetland in the Centro region of Portugal near the lower Mondego valley. The Ramsar-listed site is a permanently inundated marsh on an alluvial plain, with extensive reed beds, willows and other water-tolerant plants; water levels vary through the year and a small spring helps maintain water availability. It is also protected as a Special Protection Area under the European Birds Directive, reflecting its importance for wetland and marshland birds.
